Meet The Chef

Chef Nahika here, owner of Kreyól Korner Caribbean Cuisine which is the first Haitian food truck in Texas!

From scientist to educator and now a Haitian Culinarian, my journey to falling in love with cooking is apparently hereditary.
My mom was a talented cook who made a variety of cuisines with Haitian influence for our family of 5 and all our friends. Food, music, and making people comfortable at our home was the Eustache family’s philosophy! And to be clear, I did the eating, NOT the cooking!

I graduated with a BS in Biology and worked in the field for 3 years. After, my husband and I packed our things and moved to Austin, where I started a career in education. While we were establishing ourselves here and making friends, I carried on the tradition of the Eustache household and welcomed people to our home and provided food and entertainment.

I received so much encouragement to explore a culinary career from my family and friends. So I began researching and realized the lack of island food presence in Austin.

This is the start of Kreyòl Korner…

The Birth of Kreyòl Korner

Austin is the music capital of the world and offers a variety of great cuisines, but there was only one thing missing: Haitian food! I felt a responsibility as a Haitian woman to create the Caribbean flare and share my Haitian roots here. With only natural disaster and poverty in Haiti being reported in the media, this was a chance to change the narrative around Haitian culture and provide a more positive perspective. So I embarked on launching the first Haitian food truck in Austin.

About 2 years in and the response from Texans has been overwhelmingly positive! This has inspired me to continue growing, so I attended Auguste Escoffier of Culinary Arts in order to advance my culinary skills and restaurant operational knowledge.

I fell in love with the idea of being a restaurant on wheels, with the mobility and flexibility, it allows me to continue spreading the love of Haitian food beyond Austin! I have full intent to make Kreyol Korner the first Haitian food truck franchise in America.
